I've always remembered what a pastor of mine said many years ago. He said that whenever he hears a Christian saying "I'm just a sinner saved by grace!", he gets the feeling that the believer is giving himself permission to sin. But Paul says (in Romans 6, I believe), "Shall we then sin that Grace may abound? God forbid!" All kinds of N.T. Scriptures tell us to identify with the new man in Christ, in Collosians for example we are told to "put on Christ," -- but I don't see anywhere that we are instructed to identify with the old man. This is not to say that we deny that we have sinned, for if that were the case, Christ's redemptive work on the Cross would never have needed to have taken place. But (and this is only my opinion) when we *identify* with the old man, we set ourselves up to sin, and we shut ourselves off to His limitless Grace.

Good point, Andy, The english language allows you to say one thing that can be taken many different ways. I really see both points, and I am sure there are probably more sides to it also. Thanks for the imput, Andy!

I realize I sort of spun off on a different point than the one you were making. It just reminded me of it. :)
