JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

Men of Valour

Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 - 11:01 a.m.

Today, November 11th, is celebrated as Veterans Day in the United States of America. On this day we give homage to those men who lay down their lives for our country.

John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

I wish to thank all those who have been and especially are now in our military services in all capacities. I pray to our Loving Lord Jesus Christ that they will feel the warmth of His love around them and protect them from the wiles of the adversary!

It is because of these men and women of Valour that we have the freedom today to worship Jesus openly in this nation. Praise God for making it possible.

Mighty Men of Valour of the bible:

Valour: chayil khah'-yil - probably a force, whether of men, means or other resources; an army, wealth, virtue, valor, strength:--able, activity, (+) army, band of men (soldiers), company, (great) forces, goods, host, might, power, riches, strength, strong, substance, train, (+)valiant(-ly), valour, virtuous(-ly), war, worthy(-ily).

Mighty:` gibbowr ghib-bore' or (shortened) gibbor {ghib-bore'}; powerful; by implication, warrior, tyrant:-- champion, chief, X excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.

Listed, to name a few, in the bible are:
 Gideon ~ Judges 6
Jephthah the Gileadite ~ Judges 11
 Jeroboam ~ 1 Kings 11
 Naaman ~ 2 Kings 5
 Zadok ~ 1 Chronicles 12
 Eliada ~ 2 Chronicles 17

Judges 6:11-12 And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

Judges 11:1 Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valour, and he was the son of an harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.

1 Kings 11:28 And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour: and Solomon seeing the young man that he was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.

2 Kings 5:1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.

1 Chronicles 12:28 And Zadok, a young man mighty of valour, and of his father's house twenty and two captains.

2 Chronicles 17:17 And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

These Mighty Men of Valour were resourceful for the cause of the Almighty God that they served! The Lord was with them and accomplished many remarkable things at their hands. I believe that same is true for our Men and Women in action today. We must! Yes we MUST keep them in prayer constantly!

There is a comparison of how we could identify with the military. We are in constant spiritual warfare and should identify with the tactics of our spiritual enemies just as the military considers the tactics of the nations enemies.

Let us not be ignorant! Know that the enemy may pat you on the back and play nice with you just to make you think that he is a good person. But when he has your confidence and has gained power enough to think himself invincible he will turn on you and attempt to kill you. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Dont be surprised to find that enemy personnel are walking among us right now.

2 Timothy 2:3-4 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

VERSE FOR THIS ENTRY!

1 Peter 3:10-11 For, He that would love life, And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips that they speak no guile: And let him turn away from evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and pursue it.

ULTERIOR WORDS OF WISDOM OR/NOT!

Diligently do each daily task as best you can; act as though the eye of opportunity is always upon you.

May you be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit!
