JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

DOULOS, our goal on earth.

Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 - 2:20 p.m.

So often this has been fodder for the legalists who would set up a set of rules for Christians to live by. I dont believe that is what Paul is trying to tell us.

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech (parakaleo: urge)
you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present (paristemi: or yield)
your bodies a living sacrifice (thusia: act of),
holy (hagios: ceremonially, consecrated,
acceptable (euarestos: wellpleasing
unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed (suschematizo: fashion self according to
to this world (aion: worldly age)
but be ye transformed (metamorphoo: changed, transfigured)
by the renewing (anakainosis: renovation)
of your mind (nous: the intellect, i.e. mind (divine or human; in thought, feeling, or will)
that ye may prove (dokimazo: to test (literally or figuratively); by implication, to approve:--allow, discern, examine, (ap-)prove, try.)
what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect (teleios: complete (in various applications of labor, growth, mental and moral character, etc.); completeness:--of full age, man.)
will (thelema: desire, pleasure)
of God.

The way I see this is that we should make ourselves available to the unction of the Holy Spirit to do as He guides us moment by moment. Back again: Making the purpose of our heart to be obedient to Him; Making our selves as bond servants to the Lord.

What is a bond servant? Back in the olden days a servant was only a servant for a specific length of time. After the servant had fulfilled his or her commitment they had the choice to become a bond servant. The act of doing this was to have their ear pierced to a door post with an awl and then have a ring placed in the ear to show that they were a bond servant to the master. They would continue doing the same duties as before. Paul said that he was a (doulos doo'-los; a slave (literal or figurative, involuntary or voluntary; frequently, therefore in a qualified sense of subjection or subserviency):--bond(-man), servant.) servant to Christ. Romans 1:1.

ULTERIOR WORDS OF WISDOM OR/NOT!

Next to knowing when to seize an opportunity, the most important thing in life is to know when to forgo an advantage.
~Benjamin Disraeli, (1804-1881) English statesman and former Prime Minister of England

May you be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit!
