JOTS FROM OLD JAKE DOULOS, our goal on earth. So often this has been fodder for the legalists who would set up a set of rules for Christians to live by. I dont believe that is what Paul is trying to tell us. Romans 12:1-2 I beseech (parakaleo: urge) The way I see this is that we should make ourselves available to the unction of the Holy Spirit to do as He guides us moment by moment. Back again: Making the purpose of our heart to be obedient to Him; Making our selves as bond servants to the Lord. What is a bond servant? Back in the olden days a servant was only a servant for a specific length of time. After the servant had fulfilled his or her commitment they had the choice to become a bond servant. The act of doing this was to have their ear pierced to a door post with an awl and then have a ring placed in the ear to show that they were a bond servant to the master. They would continue doing the same duties as before. Paul said that he was a (doulos doo'-los; a slave (literal or figurative, involuntary or voluntary; frequently, therefore in a qualified sense of subjection or subserviency):--bond(-man), servant.) servant to Christ. Romans 1:1.
Galatians 3:26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.
Next to knowing when to seize an opportunity, the most important thing in life is to know when to forgo an advantage.
