JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

COMES AROUND PART II

Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007 - 1:34 a.m.

King Ahab and his Jezebel wife remind me of some of the slick silver tongued talkers and want-to-be leaders we have on the campaign trails of today. They press on convincing the public with their own agenda in mind, telling them what they want to hear and getting advise from people with the same philosophy. As you can see Ahab did know who the real God Almighty was but was persuaded by his evil wife and advisory counsel. That is until the word of the Lord came to him and told him of his just reward for leading the nation into idolatry. Then he humbled him self and got a short reprieve. He was allowed to mess up royally again before the reward was handed down.

1 Kings 21:25-29 But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. And it came to pass, when Ahab heard those words, that he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son's days will I bring the evil upon his house.

It wasnt too long before Ahab slick tongued the King of Judah into joining forces with him against a common enemy. The king of Judah, Jehoshaphat, was a good king in the eyes of the Lord.

1 Kings 22:4 And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

Jehoshaphat then said that if the Lord was willing for them to go into battle then he would be willing also. The only problem is that Ahab relied of false prophets to give him the word of the Lord. Ahab only had one prophet who was a true prophet of the Lord and he wouldnt listen to him because he wouldnt tell him what he wanted to hear.

Even after all of this Jehoshaphat joined into the battle. Ahab tried to set up Jehoshaphat by disguising himself as a soldier and convincing Jehoshaphat to put on the royal robes and show him self as king.

1 Kings 22:31-35 But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel. And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out. And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

Well the clean up crew pulled the chariot into vineyard of Naboth and washed the blood of Ahab out on the ground where the blood of Naboth was spilled and the dogs lapped up the blood just as Elijah told Ahab.

VERSE FOR THIS ENTRY!

Isaiah 43:2 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
