JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

Wild Women of renown

Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 - 3:53 a.m.

Ole King Solomon was the wisest King to grace the planet back in his hay days. Although I pointed out that he was quite woosy to start with he became a strong leader. It is assumed that his difficulties were magnified by his desire for companionship of the opposite sex. The result was the kingdom being split up into the northern kingdom called Israel and the southern kingdom called Judah.

The throne went to Jeroboam I for 22 years; followed by Nadab for 2 years; Baasha for 24 years; Elah 2 years; Zimri for 7 days Then Omri 12 years; followed by Ahab. Of course the list goes on but you probably can remember the name Ahab he is the one who married Jezebel. She is spoken of in (Revelation 2:20 KJV) Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

None of the kings of Israel were God fearing they all worshiped idols and did things not pleasing to the Lord our God. But the last three mentioned each were the worst up to the point they were on the throne. They progressed in their evil ways up to that point.

There were 19 kings in Israel after Solomon of which none of them were good kings. In the southern kingdom there were 20 kings following Solomon of which 8 were considered good kings and the remaining 12 were considered bad.

Back to Ahab. The Lord sent a prophet, Elijah who He had going through boot camp, so to speak, to face Ahab. Jezebel Ahab main squeeze and strong influence to Ahab, got rid of all the prophets of the Lord, or at least tried to. Obadiah who was the governor of the Kings house was a God fearing man, so he took one hundred prophets and hid them out in a cave where no harm would fall on them.

A long story short Elijah met up with Ahab. (1 Kings 18:17 KJV) And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? Elijah was quite gutsy with his reply. (1 Kings 18:18-19 KJV) And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim. Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

Elijah challenged them asking why they were worshiping two gods when there could only be one He convinced them to go along with the plan to set up two alters and sacrifices, one to their pagan god and one to the Lord God. And the result was that the sacrifice that was consumed by fire by the appropriate god would be ruled the God of Israel. Everyone agreed and the ceremonies started. First the sacrifice to Baal, they did everything they could but no fire came down from heaven. Elijah even mocked them saying, Hey guys you might need to wake your god up! After the false prophets were worn to a frazzle they gave up. They did all sorts of gyrations, cut them selves, bled all over the place, but no word from Baal!

Then Elijah called the bored people to come and see his sacrifice. He had to build the alter because it was destroyed. Got all the wood set up and the sacrifice set up then he told to pour water over the whole alter They drenched the sacrifice with four barrels of water. They even filled the trench around the alter. Then Elijah prayed to God and the Fire came down and burned up everything including the stones of the alter, lapping up all the water.

Needless to say the people decided that the Almighty God of Abraham was the God of Israel. And they worshiped Him. Elijah slew all 450 false prophets that day.

I know that is an overly quick view of what happened but I think enough to know who our God is and how powerful He really is.

ULTERIOR WORDS OF WISDOM OR/NOT!

It is well known that beautiful roses have thorns. Not all thorns have roses, but I am thankful for those that do!
