JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

Solomon a pansy?

Monday, Oct. 08, 2007 - 2:50 p.m.

Now, thems fighting words, to some people! Solomon was a great leader and king. He is considered one of the wisest leaders ever to grace the planet earth, except for Jesus Christ! Yet he was not a warrior, he was raised around a bunch of women, and he was not really King Davids first choice to set on his throne. At least two of his sons were in his eyes better successors. They were not afraid to take the throne by force, yet they made major mistakes that ended up in their own demise. Perhaps had they bided their time the Lord would have allowed them on the throne with His blessing.

The reason for the question is enhanced by the charge that David gave to his Solomon when he gave his blessings to him. 1 Kings 2:1 (KJV) Now the days of David drew nigh that he should die; and he charged Solomon his son, saying, I go the way of all the earth: be thou strong therefore, and show thyself a man; And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:

David told him that he must be a man. Solomon wasnt a woman so he must have meant that he needed to Cowboy UP! so to speak.

Solomon was for the most part obedient to his elders and was a strong King. He was not perfect but he did follow the leading of the Almighty God in most things!

1 Kings 3:3 (KJV) And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.

Please note that the act of burning incense in high places is an act of idolatry! This was the source of much of the problem with the relationship between Israel / Judah and the Lord! Idolatry is still prevalent in many Christian groups today, and hinders the move of the Holy Spirit in such groups!

VERSE FOR THIS ENTRY!

Psalms 145:8-9 (KJV) The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

ULTERIOR WORDS OF WISDOM OR/NOT!

Oh how painful it is to access our own troubles and realize that they are result of our own doing and not that of anyone elses!

May you be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit!

Proverbs 8:1-5 (KJV) Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.
