JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

ESTEEMED WITH EGG FACE:

Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007 - 5:30 p.m.

It is not uncommon for the Leaders of our nation as all other nations to get egg on their faces. Sometimes it is deserved and other times it is perpetrated by opponents without real evidence. It is good to use a rule of thumb to not accept any ridicule of your leaders without the word of two or three witnesses. Even then make sure that the witnesses dont have a common agenda in doing so.

Getting back to the point: David, the Apple of the Lords Eye, messed up royally. As a matter of fact the Lord was truly displeased with him.

2 Samuel 11:27b (KJV) And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

Here David probably thought he got by with his iniquitous pleasure, he probably thought no one except his chief captain, Joab, had an inkling of what took place. After all Joab followed his instructions to eliminate the husband of the woman he had committed adultery with. Well, he should have known that God wasnt going to let this slip by without judgment! God sent his prophet Nathan, a gutsy man of God, to give David His message!

2 Samuel 12:1 (KJV) And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor He tells him the whole story sounding like he was referring to some one in the kingdom. David not realizing it was he himself that the Lord was telling him via Nathan about, became irate and said the perpetrator should be put to death! That is when the gutsy man of God said: 2 Samuel 12:7a (KJV) And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel

The Lord told him that He had taken him as a nobody, sheep herder boy and anointed him king over a great nation, and that He had given him everything he desired just for the asking! Yet he, David had committed this atrocious evil act for his own pleasure!

Many of todays leaders would respond with such excuses as. I did not have sex with..., but I did not inhale, the list could go on and on. David didnt make excuses for himself.

2 Sam 12:13 KJV) And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

Remember Davids judgment for the perpetrator of this scenario was death. God, being a more just Judge, did not require the death of David. David was not going to get off totally without cost. He lost the son that was conceived in sin and because of the murder perpetrated by David; his house was plagued with violence.

David who loved the Lord his God more that many people are even capable to doing, wanted to build an elaborate House of God. Because of evil blood shed at his hands the Lord prevented him of building the Temple. His son Solomon however was allowed to build the Temple.

Psalm 51:1-3 (KJV) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Psalms 51:12 KJV) Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

In summery it is my opinion that because of David contrite spirit and love of God Almighty, he was allow more lenient judgments but he was still judged. I believe that if we have the same attitude of loving God that we will also get our corrections but still feel the bountifulness of His Love!

VERSE FOR THIS ENTRY!

1 John 2:17 (NIV) The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

ULTERIOR WORDS OF WISDOM OR/NOT!

When the final judgment has come, favored fortunate for the foolish will prove to have been highly overrated!
