JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

WHAT IS TRUTH?

Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 - 9:48 p.m.

When Pontius Pilate asked Jesus Christ, What is truth? I believe that he meant it as a rhetorical question. The question is still a valid question today. What one person considers truth another person will consider the opposite as truth.

Some world philosophers tell us that true faith is based on feelings or from the heart. Reverence of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom leads to truth. There is no place in that for feelings or what our heart tells us. Jeremiah told us about the heart.

Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV) The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

So how do we obtain faith? Everyone has a measure of faith.

Romans 12:3 (KJV) For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Is that measure enough to have all the truth. Well it is a start. We increase faith by getting into the Word of God and writing it on our hearts.

Romans 10:17 (KJV) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Ok so what is the Word of God? That Word is Jesus and the scripture he has recorded for us to use as a tool for the Holy Spirit to teach us more of Him.

John 1:1 9KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Now we have the Word of God in our hearts we will have the truth in our hearts also. The word of God is like a sharp two edged sword that divides the things of the flesh from the things of spirit which results in the truth.

Back in my youngster days I worked around construction a little. Back then sewer pipes were jointed together with lead. I would watch the men melt the lead on special pots and as the led melted sludge would float to the top of the lead. They used a wood spoon to skim the sludge off of the top of the lead. The sludge was impurities and if they used it in the joint the joint would probably leak after a short period of time. I am comparing the pure lead to being truth (the Word of God) and the sludge as being the common knowledge of the fleshly ingrained wisdom of man.

John 14:6 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Many people who deny Jesus as Lord will concede that He did live and was a Good Man, a Prophet, etc. If they concede that then they must believe that He told the truth. If he told the truth there are many places that He is recorded as saying that He is the Messiah, The Savior for all sinners who believe and have faith in Him. By being in denial they are lying to themselves.

Christians today have many of the answers to questions being asked but do not understand the question and give a good answer to the wrong question. This makes the Christian community look foolish to the non-Christian. That is why is so important, especially with the intenseness of the spiritual warfare of today, to build our faith, wisdom and understanding of the Word of God as much as is possible. We need to quit playing religious games and dig into the Word, and be extremely sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit!

Proverbs 22:17-22 (KJV) Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

VERSE FOR THIS ENTRY!

1 John 2:1 (KJV) My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

ULTERIOR WORDS OF WISDOM OR/NOT!

The reason it is harder to loose weight the older you get is because you have had the fat so long that you have named it. It is always hard to get rid of something you name. That is also why we were taught as kids not to name what we intend to serve on the dinner table.

May you be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit!
