JOTS FROM OLD JAKE HOW SALTY ARE WE? (Mat 5:13 NIV) "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. Salt is used as a preservative; it preserves materials from corruption. Salt also creates thirst and enhances flavor. I believe that Jesus is referring to our inward character and its effect on a decaying world. Trying to remember back to my Chemistry classes when you mix an acid and a base the result is salt and usually water. The Salt in most cases is quite stable and can endure a lot of punishment. Salt only looses it savor by becoming contaminated with other materials (false doctrine?). I believe that in its self is the reason we should not believe anything thrown at us without checking it out in the scripture and finding it in at least two or more places.
Three versions of 2 John 9 about the same meaning but a little different twist. (2 John 1:9 KJV) Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. (2 John 1:9 NIV) Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. (2 John 1:9 NRSV) Everyone who does not abide in the teaching of Christ, but goes beyond it, does not have God; whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
Bye for Now!
