(Mat 5:3 KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit: poor: (strongs) G4434. ptochos, pto-khos'; from ptosso (to crouch; akin to G4422 and the alt. of G4098); a beggar (as cringing), i.e. pauper (strictly denoting absolute or public mendicancy, although also used in a qualified or relative sense; whereas G3993 prop. means only straitened circumstances in private), lit. (often as noun) or fig. (distressed):--beggar (-ly), poor.
