POOR IN SPIRIT

Sunday, Apr. 22, 2007 - 12:42 a.m.

Mat 5:3 KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

This is commonly known as the first Beatitude. Beatitudes are considered the attitudes that should be in the life of the true born-again Christian. I have mentioned many times before that motives are important in every day living for Jesus. Something that should be in check by the true believer. Your motive for wanting something is important to the receiving such many times. Anyway, attitudes have a great influence on our motives.

(Mat 5:3 KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit:

Blessed: (storngs) G3107. makarios, mak-ar'-ee-os; a prol. form of the poetical makar (mean. the same); supremely blest; by extens. fortunate, well off:--blessed, happy (X -ier).

(Mat 5:3 KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit:

poor: (strongs) G4434. ptochos, pto-khos'; from ptosso (to crouch; akin to G4422 and the alt. of G4098); a beggar (as cringing), i.e. pauper (strictly denoting absolute or public mendicancy, although also used in a qualified or relative sense; whereas G3993 prop. means only straitened circumstances in private), lit. (often as noun) or fig. (distressed):--beggar (-ly), poor.

(Mat 5:3 KJV) Blessed are the poor in spirit:

spirit: H7307. ruwach, roo'-akh; from H7306; wind; by resemblance breath, i.e. a sensible (or even violent) exhalation; fig. life, anger, unsubstantiality; by extens. a region of the sky; by resemblance spirit, but only of a rational being (includ. its expression and functions):--air, anger, blast, breath, X cool, courage, mind, X quarter, X side, spirit ([-ual]), tempest, X vain, ([whirl-]) wind (-y).

spirit: G4151. pneuma, pnyoo'-mah; from G4154; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by anal. or fig. a spirit, i.e. (human) the rational soul, (by impl.) vital principle, mental disposition, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, daemon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit:--ghost, life, spirit (-ual, -ually), mind. Comp. G5590.

(Prov 16:19 KJV) Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil (plunder) with the proud.

(Isa 66:2 KJV) For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite (humble) spirit, and trembleth at my word.

(Psa 34:18 KJV) The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite (humble) spirit.

(Psa 51:17 KJV) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

In my opinion we should always be of contrite spirit and behold the Lord in great reverence and awe!

May You Be Blessed by the Holy Spirit to Overflowing!

Bye for Now!
