JOTS FROM OLD JAKE

TYPEOLOGY!

Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 - 3:53 p.m.

Earlier I have mentioned types of Christ and of the Holy Spirit. I believe that every book of the Bible mentions Christ either directly or by type. I also believe that the whole Bible is written to aid the Holy Spirit in teaching us the Word of God and about the Word of God, Jesus. Many times the word ROCK in the Bible is a reference to the Rock of Ages, Jesus and is a type of Him. Water is many times a type of the Converter, Holy Spirit.

Remember back when the Israelites first crossed the sea on dry ground. Then they were in the desert where there was no water. The Lord told Moses to take his rod and strike the Rock (type of Christ). When he followed the instructions Water, (Holy Spirit type), came gushing out and gave a life giving flow of water to the children.

The Rock being struck by the rod was a type of the crucifixion of Christ. The water coming forth was type of the Holy Spirit coming forth to comfort the sojourners. About four decades later they were again without water because they were falling away for their love in the Lord and not putting their trust in Him. They started their whining and moaning again. I am sure that Moses was really getting fed up with their antics, nothing seemed to please them. Then his sister died and was buried at Kadesh, so you know that he must have felt a loss with her gone Even thought she and Aaron were against him at some points too. Anyway the Lord told him to take the rod and gather the assembly together: Numbers 20:8 Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

Notice He said SPEAK to the rock! So what did Moses do?

Verse 9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. 10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? Cant you just hear the frustration in his voice? Verse 11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

This was a direct disobedience to God. This did not set well with the Lord Verse 12 And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

This little disobedience cost Moses and Aaron the privilege of leading the Israelites into the promised land. To make a shorter story Moses and Aaron both died before the Children crossed into the promised land.

Now trivia question: Did Moses ever set foot in the promised land? The obvious answer is NO.

But wait Who set foot on Mount of Transfiguration?

Matthew 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.

He wasnt allowed to enter with the Children but, The Lord allowed him to come meet with him on the Mount which is in the promise land.

Blessings to yall
Be ye filled with the Holy Spirit to over flowing!
